The Ninth Annual BCAA All-Star game was held at McArthur High School, thanks to Hurricane Wilma.  The past eight all-star games were conducted at Lockhart Stadium.  Damage to the lighting structures at Lockhart forced a change of venue to the intimate confines of McArthur High.  Nevertheless, scouts from throughout the country descended upon McArthur High to watch over 100 of the finest football athletes in South Florida.

Special teams would play a pivotal role in this year’s all-star game.  On the North’s first possession Will Griffin (#15), Western High blocked Jamal Blanchard’s (#41), Blanche Ely, punt and the South team was in business at the North’s 40-yard line.  However on fourth and five Alfred Lewis (#61), Ft Lauderdale High tackled Brian Harden (#40) from Stranahan High for no gain.

On the next series, Michael Johnson (#41), Cypress Bay intercepted a pass thrown by Eric Stephen (#13), QB from Cardinal Gibbons.  However, prosperity did not last, Myron Lewis (#5), Pompano Beach picked off a pass on the South’s next possession.

With 5:26 left in the first quarter North running back Rittner Jean Baptiste (#7), Boyd Anderson rambled forty-one yards.  Randy Ponder (#43) running back from Piper capped a 10 play, eighty four yard drive with a two yard touchdown run with 2:06 remaining in the first half.  The extra point was good and the North squad led 7-0.

The North missed two field goal opportunities in the second quarter.  The first half ended with the North leading 7-0.

The North squad recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff for the second half.  John Ware (#9), Super 11 all Sun-Sentinel, recovered the fumble at the South 18 yard line.  The North scored their second touchdown on a ten yard run by John Ware around the right side.  The extra point was good, the North lead 14-0.

The South finally got lucky on their second possession of the second half.  Dillard High receiver Kendrick Johnson (#82) caught a pass from QB Jackie Candy (#8), Stranahan High and rambled 65 yards down to the seven-yard line.  Deandre Stringer, RB, Miramar (#4) went seven yards on the next play for the score.  With 4:49 left in the 3rd quarter the South cut the North lead to 14-7.

Bobby Seay (#22), Mr. Defense for Everglades, changed the complexion of the game on the North’s next series.  On 4th down, Seay blocked the punt and Nova’s Oscar Pelty (#44) picked up the ball and raced 42 yards for the score.  The extra point was missed and the North’s lead was reduced to 14-13.

With 6 minutes left in the 4th quarter Justin English, QB (#13) from Cooper City High connected with Kendrick Johnson for 31 yards to the North’s 25-yard line.  Carl Volny scored on a 7-yard run to give the South a 19-14 lead.  The South squad went for two and failed.

The North squad behind the running of Rittner Jean-Baptiste (#7) got the ball inside the South’s 35-yard line.  But Mr. Defense, Bobby Seay recovered a Baptiste fumble ending the North squads drive.

The North squad could not run the clock out and punted the ball to the South.  With 1:19 left in the game the pressure fell on QB, Matt Johnson to lead the North for the winning touchdown.  Johnson got the North squad down to the South’s five-yard line.  Time expired as Johnson’s final desperate pass fell incomplete.

The South squad won 19-14.  The MVP’s for the game were:  South – Kendrick Johnson, WR (Dillard), Bobby Seay, Safety, (Everglades); North – Matt Johnson, QB (Ft Lauderdale), Dakari Tullock, DE, (Coral Glades).
