North Broward Hospital District Presents |
BCAA GAME OF THE WEEK |
DILLARD - 14 |
BLANCHE ELY - 0 |
In past years, the SOUL BOWL has been an explosive offensive show. So when the teams went to the locker room at half time 0-0, fans and players alike were stunned. Blanche Ely came into the game with the number one offense in the BCAA. Both teams stumbled offensively in the first half. Blanche Ely had one touchdown called back due to penalties. Dillard had the ball in the red zone only to retreat due to penalties. Nevertheless, a 0-0 tie at half time demonstrated how far the Dillard Panthers have come under new head coach Keith Franklin.
Football is a game of two halves. In the second half, Blanche Ely's running game got cooking with Devan James, running back, #29. Devan a junior, carried the ball sixteen times, running for 181 yards and two touchdowns. The second touchdown was a 37-yard spectacular weaving run that delighted the crowd. Devan also scored on a five-yard run, set up by his longest run of the night, a 64-yard scramble at 4:35 in the 3rd quarter.
Dillard High's super prep linebacker, Elijah Hodge, #52, led a spirited Panther defense. However, the Panther offense could only muster 68 yards passing. The Panther offense had no answer once the Tigers jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the third quarter.
The SOUL BOWL lived up to expectations. The game is more about celebration and renewing friendships than winning or losing. Half time featured both bands entertaining a festive crowd at Lockhart Stadium. The Tigers finished the regular season at 7-2, and ended the season with six consecutive wins. The Panthers saw their four game winning streak broken, finishing at 4-5.
