The battle of Coral Springs was played out between the Coral Springs Colts and Taravella Trojans at Coral Springs stadium on October 22, 2004. This 7-6A district game is fondly called the “Mayors Cup”. Regardless of record, the winner of the game claims supremacy in the City of Coral Springs for one year. Both high schools are located within the city limits of Coral Springs.

Both teams have struggled this year. District 7-6A includes the number one team in the state, Deerfield Beach High, state ranked Blanche Ely, the suprising Coconut Creek Cougars and the consistent Stoneman Douglas Eagles. The Mayors Cup may be the sole opportunity for the Colts and the Trojans to win a district game.

Led by experienced QB, Brian Dunn the Coral Springs Colts jumped out to a 13-3 lead. Dunn was efficient in pass completions, 6 of 9 for 64 yards. On the ground the Coral Springs Colts rushed for approximately 160 yards, led by Rodney Francois, 17 carries for 46 yards. Rodney scored two touchdowns on two-yard runs. The Colt defense stuffed the Trojan offense all night. The line score for the Trojans was a 36-yard field goal by place kicker Diego Monterro. Taravella hurt themselves throughout the game with penalties.
