North Broward Hospital District Presents |
BCAA GAME OF THE WEEK |
STRANAHAN – 32 |
NORTHEAST – 27 |
Tonight’s game would be a test of wills. With both teams fighting to stay alive in the playoff race, the intensity level was that of a million dollar prize fight. Northeast entered the game with a 3-2 overall record and 0-1 in district play, while Stranahan was 2-3 overall and also 0-1 in the district. The battle tonight would be between the #1 and #2 ground gainers among large schools in Broward County, Amod Ned and Daniel Dufrene, respectively.
Amod Ned of Northeast got off to the early start scoring twice in the first half, while Daniel Dufrene could only find the end zone once. The Northeast Hurricanes took an 18-13 lead into halftime. Stranahan quarterback, Jacky Candy would score on a 2yard keeper with 2:22 remaining in the 3rd quarter before the scoring frenzy of the 4th quarter would begin. With Stranahan leading 19-18, Dufrene sprinted 58 yards to what appeared to be the touchdown that would secure a 26-18 victory for the Dragons. Unfortunately, the next series for the Dragons would end with a safety for Northeast as the Stranahan punter fumbled the snap and kicked it out of the end zone. The Hurricanes answered with a drive of their own as Amod Ned scored a touchdown from 4 yards out to give Northeast a 27-26 lead with 2:58 left in the game. Dufrene, starting on offense and defense for the first time this season, responded by putting the Dragons inside Northeast territory with consecutive runs of 6, 21, and 15 yards. Dufrene left the game with cramps and Rick Michel answered the call as he rambled 30 yards to the end zone for the game-winning touchdown with 1:50 left.
Northeast’s Amod Ned, the #1 rusher in the county, finished the night with 193 yards and 3 touchdowns on 23 carries, while the county’s #2 rusher from Stranahan, Daniel Dufrene, finished with 245 yards and 2 touchdowns on 21 carries.
