Three Hurricanes have hit Florida over the past month, Charley, Frances and Ivan. All three Hurricanes hit in swift succession causing destruction throughout the state. Three serial storms are a rarity in Florida, almost as rare as the Northeast High Hurricanes finishing with a winning record and going to the playoffs. But at Alumni Stadium there is a Hurricane brewing of immense talent. The Hurricanes, 2-0, have the potential of changing the balance of power in the BCAA. The Flying L’s felt the wrath of the Hurricane’s in the second half, as Northeast scored 36 unanswered points.

The Hurricanes scored first as Amod Ned (#3) took the hand off from QB Chase Kulp (#7) and rambled 68 yards for a touchdown. The first quarter ended with the Hurricanes leading 6-0. The second half was a shootout as both teams combined for thirty-four points. The Flying L’s tied the score in the second half as L’s QB Matt Johnson (#3) hit Xaiver Harris (#2) on a 62 yard bomb. The Flying L’s recovered the ensuing kick off. L’s running back Chris Bolden (#5) scored on a 9 yard run, putting the L’s in the lead 13-7.

Northeast came back by riding on the shoulders of Amod Ned. Ned scored two more touchdowns in the second quarter. At games end Ned scored five touchdowns and ran for 207 yards on 21 carries. At half time the game was tied at 20-20. All signs pointed to a wild and furious shootout in the second half.

Northeast began the second half like a Category 5 Hurricane. Canes Head Coach, Adam Ratkevich, opened up the passing game. Cane QB Chase Kulp was 8-9 for 78 yards. In addition Chase kept the Flying L’s off-balance running for 45 yards including a 15 yard TD. Northeast took the opening kick off and marched 74 yards in 13 plays. Ned capped the march with a nine yard run. The Can defense forced the L’s to punt on the next series. Ned then scored on his second long run of the night, an 85 yard run along the sidelines. Game, set and match.

After the Hurricanes left Alumni Stadium, an appreciative Northeast crowd began talking about a winning season and playoffs. The road gets tougher for the Canes as they play Cardinal Gibbons, Stranahan, Dillard and St. Thomas in coming weeks. However, all agree its great to be a Northeast Hurricane!
