North Broward Hospital District Presents |
BCAA GAME OF THE WEEK |
DEERFIELD BEACH BUCKS - 28 |
DILLARD PANTHERS - 8 |
Deerfield Beach High QB Marcus Allen (#3) demonstrated that he is capable of filling the shoes of graduated All-American Brent Schaeffer. Marcus Allen, who had never started a varsity game, displayed composure and leadership directing the Buck offense on three touchdown scores. Marcus Allen has some big shoes to fill. Brent Schaeffer threw for 2,177 yards and 24 TD's last year. Last week, Schaeffer made football history by becoming the first freshman QB in the SEC to start a game. Schaeffer led the Tennessee Volunteers to a victory over the UNLV Rebels.
Allen threw ten passes, connecting on five for 115 yards. Allen threw a beautiful 30-yard strike to Brandon Bell along the sideline for a score. On their opening drive of the game, Allen directed the Buck offense on a seven-play 72-yard drive. The drive was capped by an eleven-yard touchdown run around left end by Sirvanta Evans (#24).
The Bucks offensive line controlled the line of scrimmage. The Bucks amassed over 193 running yards. The Buck running attack was led by Roderick Ferguson (#4), 98 yards on fifteen carries.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Bucks forced five turnovers including two interceptions by (#20) Brenton Creary. Buck defensive tackles Eldrid Jones (#99) and Mike Blanc (#78) controlled the line of scrimmage, limiting Dillard's leading rusher Shavon Striggles (#3) to 18 yards. Dillard scored late in the fourth quarter on an eleven-yard run by Brandon Davis (#7).
The game featured two new Head Coaches, Greg Mimms, Deerfield Beach and Keith Franklin, Dillard High. Mimms, who previously served as the Bucks defensive coordinator, has the Bucks ready to challenge for Broward supremacy. Last year the Bucks finished 12-2 and made it to the state semifinals. Franklin has his work cut out for him. However, he turned a losing McArthur program into an elite high school power. The Panther players played hard and never quit during the game. Mr. Franklin has the Dillard Panthers on the right track.
