The 8th Annual Sun-Sentinel/BCAA All-Star Football Classic was held on Saturday, December 4, 2004, at Lockhart Stadium. Coconut Creek’s Jeanriles Metezien, #5, caught touchdown passes of 40 and 11 yards as the North grabbed a 12-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 26-0 victory.

The all-star game is an opportunity for players to showcase their talents before college scouts. Scouts from major universities and small colleges are provided the unique opportunity to watch 100 of the best athletes in Florida practice and play. Prior to the game, ten days of practices were conducted at Lockhart under the direction of North Head Coach Mike Morrill (Cardinal Gibbons) and South Head Coach Bill Hobbs (Cypress Bay).

Metezien, a 5’10, 160 pound defensive back/inside receiver, helped lead Coconut Creek to a 7-3 record this season. Metezien got behind the South defense on a gadget play. Coral Springs quarterback Brian Dunn, #12, tossed the ball to Douglas’s P.J. Fitzgerald, #10, hit Metezien in stride for the score, which capped a 12 play, 93-yard drive.

The North extended its lead as Dunn moved the team 60 yards in 1:09. Dunn connected with Metezien twice for 21 yards in the drive. However, his biggest completion was a 34 yarder to Boyd Anderson’s Anthony Roach, #22, which gave the North the ball on the South’s 12. After Deerfield’s Roderick Ferguson, #4, gained 1 yard, Dunn hit Metezien with his second TD.

Northeast’s Chase Kulp, #11, scrambled for a 13 yard score on the opening drive of the second half to push the lead to 19-0.

Ferguson put the game out of reach with a 1-yard plunge with 2:27 remaining in the third quarter to extend the lead to 26-0. The North capitalized on an interception by Coral Springs Rodney Francois, #44, on the South’s 42.

MVP’s for the North were Chase Kulp, QB, Northeast, Offense, Wendy Napoleon, #51, Linebacker, Deerfield Beach, Defense, MVP’s for the South team were the Western High duo of Jason Lovingshimer, #16, DB, defense and Kai Williams, #40, RB, offense.

South Head Coach Bill Hobbs enjoyed himself even though the South lost, “This game isn’t about us at all. It’s about the scouts that come out to see these kids.” If a few kids get noticed, or even just one kid, then its all well worth it.

The all-star game also featured North and South all-star cheerleaders. Cheerleaders from all BCAA schools participated in the same activities and events provided to the players. The BCAA recognizes that cheerleading is a sport, and worthy of distinction.
