It’s going to be tough to argue with the fact that when people talk about the best coaches in South Florida, the name Art Taylor has got to be in the conversation.
What Taylor has done in his stops as a football coach in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties is teach, motivate and gave the players a belief they could compete against anyone at any level!
Last Friday night, in yet another game nobody gave this team a shot of winning, at St. Thomas, the Cooper City Cowboys came away with a stunning second straight district title. But unlike last year when the district championship game was against Coral Springs, this year, the grand prize was a shot at knocking off the national powerhouse Raiders who were beaten for the second time this season.
After losing early this year to Miramar, Taylor figured that going in, his team would have a chance if it created turnovers and play all four quarters.
The 21-16 District 15-7A win helped the Cowboys showcase athletes such as senior Camden Krohn, who scored from 99 yards out to give the Cowboys a 7-3 lead with 7:50 left in the second.
Taylor Burch, who intercepted a pass and return it inside the 5. Krohn would score his second TD of the game after the turnover by Tyson Burch at the 33. The Cooper City linebacker rambled to the 3, and Krohn punched it in one play later after an Aquinas penalty.
When junior John O’Korn, and Jordan Mornay picked up the loose ball and sprinted into the end zone, the Cowboys had built a surprising 21-10. It was the largest deficit St. Thomas had to overcome in over two years.
The Cowboys (9-0), who will host Miami Beach on November 18th, ended the Raiders final shot at avoiding the upset when James Zawoyski recovered an onside kick, giving St. Thomas little time in the end.
Congratulations to those BCAA teams who will have the chance to make that trek toward Orlando.
