We are headed down the competitive stretch

It’s amazing that we are already headed toward the eighth week of the 2010 high school football season, and while some schools have already taken the lead in the district race, others are looking for the last three weeks of the season to make a statement.

Over the next two weeks, district play will take center stage around the BCAA - with several key games taking placxe with a lot at stake.

In Class 4A, Stranahan already has a district win over West Palm Beach Forest Hill. If the Dragons can beat Hollywood Hills on Friday night at Lockhart Stadium, they will win the district. If the Spartans win, they will have to beat Forest Hill next week for the title.

Both the Spartans and the Dragons have played well of late, and after last year’s thriller, Friday night’s (7:00) meeting at Lockhart Stadium will be one of the best games of the week.

Another game to keep an eye on will take place on Friday night at Flanagan as the Falcons will play host to Everglades. The winner of this game will certainly take a giant step in winning the district.

Both teams have played very well, and with Cypress Bay already knocking off Flanagan, this game is huge for the Falcons, who cannot afford to lose.

Everglades is coming off a huge non-district win over Hallandale, and with a win, it will set up a huge game the following week at home against Cypress Bay.

Perhaps the biggest game of the week will take place at Lockhart Stadium on Saturday night as the Blanche Ely Tigers, coming off a stunning loss to 2A Cardinal Gibbons, will be taking on Boyd Anderson. If the Cobras win, the district is over. An Ely victory will set up next week’s meeting with Dillard in the annual Soul Bowl.

This game will bring together two of the more talented 5A programs around. Up until last week, Ely was the overwhelming favorite to win the district, but the Cobras have been cruising since the loss at home to St. Thomas Aquinas in the first few weeks of the season.

Well, there is no doubt that the next two weeks will define the season for many teams, and we will be there every step of the way, bringing you the newsmakers.
