Pines Charter looking to jump into the playoff mix

For Steve Bruns and his Pines Charter football program, there have been a number of high moments, and of course, some low points of the program as well.

When you compete against top programs in Broward County every week, there is need to keep up with the competition, and with several off season appearances at camps, combines and 7-on-7 tournaments, the Jaguars hit the ground running for the 2011 season.\

A few changes around the program have also helped to raise the expectations as the BCAA leading rusher, Jeremy Donaldson (5-11, 205) comes over from Hollywood Hills to help give the team balance.

While Donaldson is certainly a player that everyone will keep their collective eyes on, he is not alone. The offensive will include

Pines Charter also boasts seniors Keith Regis (RB/QB, 5-10, 185), Anthony Cilli (OL, 6-2, 255), Gabriel Rodriguez (OL, 6-1, 240), William Parlins (RB, 5-9, 175), Tyrell Gordon (OL, 6-6, 250), James Pitters (RB, 5-7, 150), Justin Hunter (WR, 5-9, 160), Jaquon Edgecomb (WR, 5-8, 150), Jeremy Trost (OL, 6-2, 220) and Trenton Saunders (WR, 5-11, 185).

Defensively, Olivier Rigaud (DB, 6-1, 175), Christian Wilson (LB, 5-10, 215), Casey Ford (DB, 5-10, 175) and Kirk Lacey (DB, 5-9, 155) have used the off season to get better.

While there will be a number of quality 2013 and 2014 players who will make an impact, rising juniors such as Neil Morrison (LB/RB, 5-11, 185) and Jiovani Aponte (LB/RB, 5-10, 205).

SUCCESS AT USF
Each year, the University of South Florida hosts its annual Sling & Shoot weekend, which includes some 52 teams for a 7-on-7 tournament and Lineman Challenge.

Once again this year, Hollywood Hills and Western sent players to both the 7-on-7 event as well as the Lineman Challenge.

“This is a great thing for the kids to take part in.” said Hollywood Hills head coach Scott Barnwell. “We try and take our team there every year.”

Both Hills and Western had the opportunity to get some games in against top-flight west and southwest Florida teams.
