Nike Camp attracts several BCAA athletes

Nobody will ever question BCAA football players when it comes to competing and trying to gain that edge.

Last Sunday, a number of football players, trying to get their names out to colleges across the country, took yet another step at the South Florida stop on the Nike Football Camp tour.

Hundreds of football players in the Classes 2012, 2013 and 2014 headed to the University of Miami with the idea of turning a few heads, and by the end of the 5-hour event, several BCAA players had made a major statement.

With the exception of a few top-flight athletes who did not attend, the BCAA was out in force with players from schools all over the county.

"This was a great chance for me to see how I stack up against some of the better players from throughout Florida," said Fort Lauderdale receiver Koby Gray, who brought his mother to the event. "When you have so many talented athletes, you get a good read on how far you have to go."

Among the Class of 2012 performers who came out included Abe Coleman (QB, Hallandale), Jared Joyner (RB, Coral Springs), D’Vontis Arnold (RB, Miramar), Jeremy Glinton (WR, Northeast), Devonte Mathis (WR, Miramar), Tim Taylor (RB, Stranahan), Kevin Gonzalez (OL, Miramar), Clevonne Davis (OL, Miramar), Kameron Davis (OL, Boyd Anderson), Daniel Lennon (OL, Miramar) and Frantz Joseph (OL, Stranahan).

Other BCAA players who showcased their skills included Anthony Gadson (DB, Deerfield Beach), Camren Hudge (DB, Miramar), Hugs Etienne (DB, South Plantation), Terry Harden (DB, Hollywood Hills),Dinero Moss (DB, Piper), Mark Rucker (LB, Miramar), Jean-Marc Charles (DL, Hollywood Hills), Trevon Coley (DE, Miramar), Telly Lockhart (LB, Northeast), Barrington Morris (LB/DE, Piper), Josh Witt (LB, Cypress Bay), Rodney Smith (DE, Hallandale) and Mike Fleurinvil (LB, Miramar).

One of the rising seniors who made a real statement was Blanche Ely defensive back Adrian Burton, who was singled out a number of times for his outstanding play. For Burton, this event was the perfect place for him to be in.

"When you come to an event like this, you want to bring the best you have," Burton said. "I just came out here with the idea that I was going to do the best job I can."

The 2013 prospects were also very impressive with Fred Coppet (RB, St. Thomas Aquinas), John Franklin (QB, South Plantation), Alex Montgomery (WR, Cypress Bay), Jaranta Lewis (QB, Cypress Bay), Matthew Dayes (RB, Cypress Bay), Sandley Jean-Felix (OL, Boyd Anderson), Sojourn Shelton (DB, Plantation), Griffin Goins (LB, Hollywood Hills) and Jermaine Grace (DB, Miramar) having recruiting analysts and coaches looking into the future.

St. Thomas defensive back standout Al Harris Jr. was one of the few very talented 2014 players at the event.
