 Flag football heading into the playoffs

When Takhari Jones ran in the winning touchdown against previously unbeaten Everglades, it put 10-1 Miramar back in a position the Lady Patriots know all too well - being on top.

As the state flag football playoffs get under way, a number of BCAA programs have left a solid mark, and while defending state champion and powerhouse Seminole Ridge of Palm Beach County continues to win, a number of local programs are getting ready for the playoffs with state title in mind.

As the teams get ready to make a run at a state crown, here is a rundown of the local teams in the state Top 25, courtesy of Joe Pinkos, who has been rating boys and girls' football for a number of years:

2. Tampa Chamberlain (9-0) 76.1
3. Freedom-Tampa (9-0) 75.9

7. Miramar (9-1) 72.9: The Patriots have been playing extremely well as they make a push to get back to win yet another state title under head coach Damon Cogdell.
8. Cypress Bay (9-3) 72.8: The Lighting have been impressive with quarterback/defensive back Andrea Abed throwing touchdowns and intercepting passes, and Julie Woodard catching balls.
9. Fort Lauderdale (10-1) 72.2: The Flying Ls are gettng things done behind the play of standout Teylah Harris, who had eight receptions for 147 yards and a touchdown in a win over Coral Springs.

11. Boynton Beach (11-1) 72.0
12. Palm Beach Gardens (11-1) 71.9
13. Tampa Alonso (11-1) 71.8

16. Pompano Beach (8-2) 70.9: The Tornadoes are back in the hunt for a title, using the passing and running of Lariesa Fulmore, who threw for 65 yards, two touchdowns and ran for 68 yards and a touchdown in a win last week.
17. Everglades (10-1) 70.8: Despite losing that tough game to Miramar, the Gators are back on the right track and will use that setback as motivation to grab playoff wins.

20. Tampa Robinson (7-2) 70.5
21. Tampa Plant (8-4) 69.9
22. Hollywood Hills (10-1) 65.7: Staying right in the mix is a team who has been one of the top BCAA teams since the sport was started. In wins last week, Sara Mendez, Kelley Corsey and Joelys Gonzalez paved the way for the Spartans. had two receptions for scores and a 30-yard rushing touchdown to lead the Spartans (9-1).

24. Daytona Beach Seabreeze (10-1) 63.5
25. West Boca Raton (7-2) 63.4

Other BCAA programs who have done well include:
