Blair, Boyd Anderson Move to 4-0

During the spring, when Boyd Anderson’s football team was looking to choose its next head coach, the Cobras - with several coaches who would no longer be at the school when a new coach was found - convincingly beat Miami Monsignor Pace in the spring.

For those close to the program who saw the game against Miami-Dade County’s powerhouse saw a team that made very few mistakes and featured quality football talent - on both sides of the line of scrimmage.

During the summer, when names of potential head-coaching candidates came in, there was one that many knew about. Someone who was a product of Broward County and had a tremendous feel for what was needed to turn things around in Lauderdale Lakes.

As a player at St. Thomas Aquinas, Wayne Blair was a prospect. Not just one who could make tackles and come up with big play after big play from his linebacker position, but certainly a student/athlete who got it done in the classroom and put him in a position to attend and play football at Tulane University.

The hiring of Blair, who had honed his coaching skills under former St.. Thomas player and coach Roger Harriott as well as Raiders’ legendary George Smith. A combination of character, football savvy and a will to change a culture at Boyd Anderson that has long produced quality football talent, but athletes that struggled in the classroom.

As they head into this Friday’s game at home against Coral Glades (7:00), Blair has his Cobras believing, playing very well and undefeated and state-rated at 4-0.

In last Friday’s 15-8 win over Northeast (0-4), Gregory Hankerson scored on a 3-yard run with 3:39 remaining in the district opener.

Zachary Hill returned a punt 60 yards to the Hurricanes' 3-yard line to set up Hankerson's winning score two plays later.

Northeast had one final chance to score, however senior Aneus Sangster intercepted a Brandon Thompson pass on the Cobras' 15-yard line to seal the game with 42 seconds remaining.
