Miramar showed earlier this season that the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders were indeed mortal when they beat them in a game that caught many off guard.
While the stakes were for a national title when St. Thomas played and beat Prattville and De La Salle of California, the objective is now to get back to state and win a first ever 7A state title. To do that, head coach Rocco Casullo and his team will have to get by unbeaten Carol City - this Friday at home.
The Cowboys have run the gauntlet to get to this game without a loss, and while many believe that this will not be a game at all, we may have to remind you that head coach Art Taylor and the Cowboys have been impressive this season.
In last week’s win over McArthur, the Cowboys had to play all four quarters with a number of players banged up. They head into the district title game still with players on the sideline and not in uniform, which against St. Thomas will be a tough assignment.
STORM SEASON OVER YET?
I cannot remember a season when so many storms have either pushed back, postponed or delayed games. This is something that really has cut into the season, and with district positions up for grabs, playing Monday and then coming back on Friday to play is adding extra pressure on a number of programs.
Still, while we can’t predict what Mother Nature is going to give us, it would be nice to have some week’s without the lightning and so many delays.
LET’S HEAR IT FOR NAPOLI
For those who can remember Texas Rangers catcher Mike Napoli, you’ll recall a player who dominated from the first day he walked onto the playing field at Flanagan, where he spent four record-breaking years for the Falcons.
Drafted by the Angels, Napoli made his way up to the big leagues and settled in, splitting time with his close friend Allen Mathis, until he finally landed with the Rangers.
Napoli had been on a tear in the post season and was on the verge of being named MVP, but the Cardinals rallied to win it all!
