There are some very impressive football teams in the BCAA, and many have already been looked at with an eye toward Orlando and the state championships. But if those who follow the sport are smart, they had better include Hallandale in the championship equation.
The Chargers, who had the best defensive secondary in the state - voted by Friday Night Football Florida Magazine, with University of Florida-bound Willie Bailey, Dashad Tucker, Sean Walters, Qua’Mani Floyd, Darnell Bloom and John Battle making up the offensive coordinator’s nightmare.
For head coach Dameon Jones and the Chargers, this is something that has not come without a lot of hard work and plenty of year-round coaching.
The Chargers built this program with track speed. Senior running back Jared Sanders, and receivers Dwight Davis and Charles are certainly proof of how quick this program truly is.
“This is a team that worked hard, had very good coaching from some impressive assistants and put in the time,” Jones said. “To me, I see quality football players who wanted to take this thing to the next level.”
While they have had some real championship success on the basketball court, football has never reached that level at Hallandale where it is now. With quality athletes such as quarterback Abe Coleman and linebacker Delroy Hamilton, the Chargers do have the talent to continue turning heads the rest of the year.
The Chargers will travel to Northeast this week to take on the Hurricanes. Here is a look at the way the BCAA stacks up for Week 2:
