South Broward looks to rebuild team in 2011

For the past two years, there are very few BCAA teams that could make the claim South Broward can when it comes to football.

The Bulldogs, who have long competed in the same district with national powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas, found a way to bring this program to the next level in that period as veteran head coach Allen Held guided his alma mater to 19 wins in two seasons and three state playoff games.

Loaded with quality talent the past few years that has sent athletes to schools such as Rutgers, USF, Miami and just about every other college and junior college program in the country, the Bulldogs have developed a tremendous system with quality coaches who know the program and the kids.

"We have seven coaches on staff here who went to this school," Held said. "I know that a lot of programs attract their own to come back, but to have seven people who played here and grew up in the area is something very different."

While the Bulldogs get over the sting of losing to Cooper City in the first round of the playoffs, there are much bigger things to worry about. Replacing one of the largest offensive lines will be one of the major concerns. But so will be finding a replacement for one of the school's best ever players - Kevin Grooms - will also be very difficult.

The senior class has talent, and while many will need to step up and assume the leadership role, there was a concern in the spring that many of the play makers and line prospects were underclassmen.

Antonio Harris (WR/DB, 6-0, 185) is certainly the key to what direction the team heads in. A potential three-year starter, Harris is versatile to play anyplace on the field.

"Antonio is a quality athlete who will play just about anywhere on the field," Held said. "We will really need his experience this fall."

In addition to Harris, the Bulldogs will also look to players such as Kevious Morgan (WR, 6-3, 170), Kelton Mobley (DB/RB, 5-7, 165), Vladamir Benjamin (DB, 5-8, 170), Sir Anthony Russell (LB, 6-0, 170), Sam Adams (LB, 6-0, 215), J.T. Mitchell (DE/LB, 5-10), Robert Darcy (OC, 6-2, 275), Louis Vigo (NT, 6-1, 220), George Draggoui (DE, 6-1, 210) and Chris Ayres (P, 5-9, 160), who has been looked at by several schools in the spring. He was selected as one of the premier punters in the state.

If the Bulldogs are to maintain and keep at the level they have been playing for a few seasons, it will be the play of the underclassmen who will make a difference.

The Class of 2013 is loaded with talent. Players such as Willis White (WR/DB, 6-0, 170), Qushawn Thomas (QB, 6-0, 170), speedy Kahlill Henderson (WR/DE, 6-2, 170), Ishmael Jackson (Athlete, 5-11, 160), Jamil Robinson (WR/DB, 5-10, 155), Braxtin Davis (RB/DB, 5-10, 170), Kevin Jacques (OL/DL, 6-0, 265), Francisco Berrios (WR/DB, 6-1, 170) and Jeffrey Levine (RB, 5-10, 160) are all expected to make a huge impact.

Some believe that when he is running at full strength, Levine has the chance to be as good as any back in the district. Jacques, the younger brother of former South Broward and current USF standout, Steven Jacques, is also a player who cane do it all - on both sides of the ball.

?As impressive as the rising junior class is, the Class of 2014 also looks like they could have some impact players with Jarrius Brown (WR/DB, 5-6, 140) and Matthew Cunningham (WR/DB, 5-10, 160), who played a key role in the spring.
