They have worked hard all spring and summer, and for the first nine weeks of the 2010 season, teams have been aiming toward this week.
By Saturday night, the state playoff picture will finally be set - or at least a lot more in focus than it is today.
For teams with huge dreams, Thursday, Friday and Saturday will tell the story. Some teams will go away happy - while others will start to point toward next year.
As many district games take place with a lot at stake, there are district titles to be won as well. All the talk is over. Let the BCAA programs make that final push toward a trip to Orlando in December.
Here are six very important games that we will be keeping an eye on this week:
AMERICAN HERITAGE AT CARDINAL GIBBONS, 4: Last year, the Patriots beat the Chiefs, but this year, Coach Mike Morrill and his team have played extremely well and have this one at home! BCAA PICK: Cardinal Gibbons 28-21.
ST. THOMAS AQUINAS AT SOUTH BROWARD, 7: Last year, the two meetings between the teams were all Raiders. Even though St. Thomas is still a heavy favorite, the Bulldogs and Kevin Grooms have this one at home. BCAA PICK: St. Thomas 40-14.
CYPRESS BAY AT EVERGLADES, 7: Classic district matchup which was won by the Gators last year, but Cypress Bay has had a very tough road to this game and are ready. BCAA PICK: Everglades 21-20.
ARCHBISHOP MCCARTHY AT HALLANDALE, 7: The Chargers failed to win a game last year, but under Dameon Jones, they are in a great position to stop the Mavericks and a 17-game regular season winning streak. BCAA PICK: Archbishop McCarthy 20-16.
COOPER CITY AT CORAL SPRINGS, 7: In finishing second last year, the Colts had St. Thomas in the first round. Cooper City’s complete turnaround would be complete with a rare district title! BCAA PICK: Cooper City 18-14.
DILLARD AT ELY, 7 (SATURDAY): The Tigers already completed Part 1 of this 3-team district. A win at Lockhart in the Soul Bowl and they take home another district crown. A loss and it’s Monday night tie-breaker action with Boyd Anderson thrown into the mix. BCAA PICK: Ely 28-20.
