Okay, so you say that the football season never ends. Well, you may be right, and you know, that’s what makes the BCAA such a great place for the sport.
This Wednesday morning, high school football players across Broward County and in other cities and counties throughout the country, it’s National Signing Day.
All the camps, combines, spring and summer sacrifices have been made to put athletes in a great position to receive a college scholarship. Games, post season play and all-star events have all been played, and now it’s time to siogn on that dotted line.
The only thing that has changed over the past 10 years when it comes to NSD, is now there are more athletes who are looking for that elusive scholarship.
The sudden rise in the number of D1 prospects can be traced to programs such as the Sun Belt and Mid American Conference, which have added to the numbers through the years.
Some of the top football prospects in the BCAA have been recognized nationally – as well as locally, where some have already started to head out to. Among those heavily recruited players include Bryan Cox, Jr. from St. Thomas who will join Hallandale defensive back Willie Bailey at the University of Florida.
There are also athletes such as Chris Ayers (punter, South Broward, and receiver Jeremy Smith of Flanagan, who will both stay in South Florida to play for FIU.
The University of Miami did quite well locally with four players heading down to Coral Gables. St. Thomas defensive end Jelani Hamilton, along with Cypress Bay teammates Danny Isadora (offensive lineman) and linebacker Josh Witt. There is also Miramar receiver Malcom Lewis.
