BCAA Information
www.bcaasports.com is the premier high school website in the nation. The numbers don’t lie. www.bcaasports.com received over 5.8 million hits during the 2007-2008 school year according to statistics released by Verio, Inc., the online hosting company for the Broward County Athletic Association (BCAA).

The hits recorded during the 2007-2008 sports season represent a total larger than the number of hits generated during the 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 years, combined. “The success of the BCAA and bcaasports.com clearly reflect an increased interest in high school sports throughout Broward County and the State of Florida,” said Damian Huttenhoff, the District’s Director of Athletics and Student Activities. “We thank you and the many people who dedicated their time to make bcaasports.com the online leader for information about the nation’s premier high school athletic conference.”

The BCAA consists of 33 teams, including 29 Broward County Public Schools, two charter schools (Coral Springs and Pines Charter) and two private schools (Cardinal Gibbons and St Thomas). The BCAA offers a comprehensive sports menu with 24 sports programs.

The BCAA is committed to support the players who make high school sports the best game in town. Over 15,000 high school students and 8,000 middle school students play under the BCAA umbrella. High school sports is about passion, pageantry and love for the game. High school athletes play for the opportunity to represent their school and wear the school’s colors. Through www.bcaasports.com we utilize the Internet as a vehicle to promote high school athletics and student opportunities for post-secondary education. Our website is designed for the fan, the player, the scout and the high school/college coach.

BCAA sports takes you on the field, in the locker room, behind the scenes and up-close with the student athletes. The cornerstone of the website is our award winning Game of the Week (see Magna Award). Each and every week the BCAA will capture the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat in high school sports. Game action, coach and player interviews, and of course spirit from our cheerleaders will be featured on video.

The BCAA website will feature a weekly column by high school sports guru, Larry Blustein. From Key West to Tallahassee, Larry Blustein is recognized as the insider on Florida high school sports. Larry makes his home right here in Broward County. He knows the coaches and the players. His columns are honest, insightful and informative. Larry Blustein is a longtime friend and supporter of the BCAA. He also is part of the Dolphin Gridiron Radio Show each Thursday night (9-10 pm) on WQAM-AM (560 AM). We welcome Larry’s weekly contribution to our web site… Blustein’s Corner.

This year the BCAA will be rocking and rolling with a number of historic events. For the first time in history, two BCAA teams will be traveling out of state to play national powerhouse. On October 4, 2008, Cypress Bay Lightning will travel to Texas to play state champion Katy High. The Katy High Tigers are fresh off a perfect season and No. 4 national ranking in USA Today. The Lightning are coming off a stellar 10-2 season and feature arguably the best line backing corp. in the BCAA and seven Division 1 prospects in 2008. The game is planned to be televised nation wide.

St Thomas Aquinas will be traveling to Ohio to play in the Kirk Herbstreit football classic.

The past year saw competitive cheerleading make its mark as the newest sport in the BCAA and Florida High School Athletic Association. Congratulations to the Stranahan Lady Dragons who finished second in the state championships. This year we are expanding our BCAA competition matches with three sectional championships leading up to the BCAA County Competitive Cheerleading Championship. All BCAA schools will be invited to participate in the county championship.

The BCAA welcomes our newest member, West Broward Bobcats. West Broward is a 9-12 high school located in Southwest Pembroke Pines. The Bobcats are designated independent status for football season. This allows the BCAA to create a hybrid schedule of varsity and junior varsity teams during their first year of football. The Bobcats will be assigned by the Florida High School Athletic Association to district(s) for all other sports. The Bobcats will offer a full complement of sports programs.

With over 50 special events (see Special Events) ranging from football all-star game, county championships in most sports, recruiting fairs, combines, skill camps and showcases. The special events are designed to showcase the student athlete before college coaches, fans, family and the community at large. High school sports continues to be a subway for student athletes to earn athletic scholarships. Over $5,000,000 in athletic scholarship was awarded to BCAA high school graduates for the 2007-2008 school year.
