IN MEMORY – BUTCH INGRAM, JR.

Richard “Butch” Ingram Jr. was born on April 14, 1946 in Ft Lauderdale, Florida.

He departed this life on September 21, 2005 at 7:00am.

He was born to two great parents, Gracie and the late Richard Ingram Sr. in Ft Lauderdale, Florida.  Butch received his early education at Dillard High School.  He matriculated at Mississippi Industrial College in 1970, where he received his bachelor’s degree in Physical Education.  He later taught at Dillard High School for many years.  He gave of himself unselfishly to the field of education for 33 ½ years; retiring in 2005.  “Coach”, the name that Butch was fondly called by his many friends and family, was a man of principle, fortitude, faith and integrity.  He was committed to family values and pursued the teaching thereof, to his offspring and other relatives with a vigilance.  He felt that there were no excuses for bad behavior, that every man and woman should seek and find their God given purpose in life.  He would always confess…”I am what I am, by the grace of God”.

Butch was an overachiever.  He learned at a very early age that if you have a strong work ethic you and achieve anything you desire in life.  His teams were characterized by this same work ethic, which led to his impressive record of 553-188.  He received numerous accolades during his coaching career, including Broward County Athletic Association Coach of the Year.  Butch coaches four area teams and lived by the philosophy of leaving each program batter than it had been, before he arrived.  He was a member of the Broward County Sports Hall of Fame.  He was also a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
